In the remote possibility of a loss of cabin pressure, a panel directly above your head will open automatically.

The Case For Being Off Your Face

Le cas d’être de votre visage

In case you haven’t noticed, the vast proportion of human evolution is for the most part, mediocre (dull) and complacent (lazy). There is a numbness that is a by-product of fear and consumption, mitigated only by coin and the fake whims it advertises its faulty and destructive end. Christmas approaches and announces (enounces) as early as possible its fake tribute to fake gratitude.

Why else would we so infatuated with the failings of our heroes? Surely, it serves to abate our lack of concern and justify our own (lack of) morality. By ridding ourselves of heroes, we conveniently excuse ourselves from any form of heroism.

Instead, we pay homage to a thing called the economy (dollar) as it tho t’was a thing correctly indicating our esteem for those we (assert we) love. For heaven help us (tho it won’t), should the economy not be allowed (aloud) to thrive to the power of infinity.

To be removed from this obsessive insanity is almost impossible. You have to be off your face (and open to a purer world view); to entertain hope of even a modicum of enlightement. Children starve, adults too. It is such a waste. But a cure has always been declared economically unviable. Perhaps we are destined for extinction, since our gains never seem to fill the aching gap that eats away at us. Cancer? Perhaps that is a fitting random response. No one can say, and as a result, no one does.

Nonetheless, it helps if you sing, and it helps if you are off your face.

Why you should never throw out the baby with the bathwater, nor as you now do, kill the baby and worship the bathwater.

I Used To Be A Christian And I’m Glad I Was.

I used to be a Christian and I’m glad I was. Christianity yielded more benefits than less. For example, if I hadn’t been a Christian I would not have encountered so many wonderful people. Especially wonderful were the one’s that had no idea they were wonderful. Sure there was hypocrisy, as there still is now, but less so. But I had always looked for an excuse to choose forgiveness over judgement, and mercy over vengeance (and similar…). And then I encountered Larry Norman, and everything went up a gear.

Now I like my music. In fact I am very much defined by it. So when I heard Larry Norman for the first time, all sorts of bells went off. In spite of my many-splendored and mentally-irregular musical tastes, Larry was like glue to them, reinforcing them. The first live concert I ever attended was a Larry Norman ‘unplugged’ one. That was probably 1979 and it took 20+ years for me to attend my next concert. That was Don McLean and I was so surprised when he sang ‘Crossroads’ as that song had me at 15. A Rickie Lee Jones concert would have been first but, sadly, that concert was cancelled. I still have the ticket somewhere amongst the rubble.

So Larry reinforced Christianity by reinforcing and re-adjusting my world view. (At this point it is safe to say that Christianity is only readjusted by the dollar – becoming more and more judgement- and vengeance- oriented, rendering unto the Caesars of fear (spawning hatred) and consumption (spawned of the dollar) – such a waste. [ed: better as a footnote? {mind your business!}] (Bracket checker?)

My world view, my serious world view (you gotta laugh!) it was just that ‘do unto others’ thing, a lot of cheek turning, forgiving and remembering, the stuff that all the other ‘wise’ religions say – the heroic quest – the many-splendored smell of the thing. And here was this Larry Norman guy singing it. Well bless my cotton socks, wrap me up in towels and feed me to the mendicants!, knock me down with a feather and call me Bruce!

I quit Christianity in 1980 and it took 20+ years to get over it, but I’m over it; over it and glad of it.

Now Larry has his detractors, and I wish them healing, for mercy still is better than justice, forgiveness than vengeance et al, so busy measuring darkness, missing the light. There is a bit of me in all of them, so by my will, they are forgiven.

Introduction
Origin
Pascal’s triangle was invented by Blaise Pascal during his autistic period. Intending to prove that the shortest distance between two points was a metric foot, he stumbled upon the following pattern achieved by adding the sum of the other to the one before and just a jump to the left.

                 1
               1 1
             1 2 1
           1 3 3 1
         1 4 6 4 1
       1 5 10 10 5 1
              : :

Blaise got the idea for this triangular configuration while watching light bulbs flash on the family Christmas tree. (When one of the bulbs accidentally landed on his head he came closer to discovering gravity than a cure for cancer, but managed to avoid both with unequal dexterity.)

Applications
The uses of this triangle are one of none and many. While most uses have been documented, others have been in held in trust by deceased members of the Da Vinci Code of Ethics. Hence the obtuse smile on the Moaning Lisa’s poker face.

Navigation
Provides a tracking overlay for relocating ships and socks loitering in the Bermuda Triangle.

Mathematics
It can be used to determine the coefficients of algebraic equations having many solutions for

where and is all pastry and no meat.

It has also been used to prove that “89 is really 99″ but this is more of a theological statement and thus not subject to mathematical rigor mortis.

Music
Can be played in any orchestra having as many violins as violinists, as long as the music isn’t too square. This is especially true when Mars trine Venus. The use of Pascal’s triangle in orchestral pieces has fallen from favour since very few musicians have ever mastered it.

Military
Was used in the Golf War to triangulate the location of missing birdies and bogeys.

An effective method of killing the enemy is to lure them into Pascal’s Triangle with the promise of lots of virgins and then drop lots of virgins on top of them from a great height.

Ecology
By joining four triangles to form a pyramid it is possibly to locate water in any river as long it’s not the Nile.

Software Engineering
When applied to software that has run adrift of its specification, Pascal’s triangle (also known as the holy trinity of the MVC, as it is referred to by the Gang of Three) allows you (or your kin) to reverse engineer all your classes back to a single series of poetic goto statements.

How To Write A ‘How To Write A Self-Help Book’ Self-Help Book

[potential satire alert level pi]

For starters you need to identify who needs to know how to write a self-help book.

These people should naturally have some form of self-help to offer.

It follows also that they have managed to help themselves in some manner.

It edges closer to inferring, on their part

some breakthrough some make do
some access (via regress?)
some magic some potion
some retrieved emotion
via a road less trod
and (in some manner) odd
of dreams and lost things
and the rebuilding it brings
might take intoxication
to rewake imagination
and let inner cremations
become new creations
some new things to cherish
some old things to perish
or join and entangle
strottle and dangle
diverting a whim
with vigour and vim
some colour, some style
some summer some smile
of hips that could swivel
and all manner of drivel
could well be the manner
that a well thrown spanner
or some other such tool
might rally the fool
to whisper to those
that the fool hath chose
and smuggle a hint
within a breath mint
that within death and despair
there is laughter and care
and you really shouldn’t mind it
you just have to find it

And it this breakthrough, that they would put to print.

Well the simplest thing would be to direct them to the ‘How To Write A Self-Help Book’ section.

But of course, to make a book of it, that is another thing entirely.

For example, you could write about reading and books, explore the N-squared ways of reading a book, what in essense is a book?, how to evaluate and taxonomize, and at the same time rejuvenate and personalize the book’s context, using what you could call the ‘Wise Crack of Dawn’ book reading experience, and offer tips on how to read between the lines that are between the gaps between the other lines. Include some stuff that integrates mind mapping with tarot cards, and/or differentiates personality types wrt i-ching. Perhaps some mention of middle-perfumery could be noted along the way, ect ect ect,…

Then there are these other titles we are currently working on:

How To Read A Self-Help Book

What do you know about a single drop of rain?

Suppose a single drop of rain falls from a cloud base of height of H km. Suppose that at an above-ground height of h metres, it has diameter d mm. Suppose it falls alongside a tall glass skyscraper. Suppose the rain-drop-to-skyscraper distance remains a constant k metres. Suppose the sun is upon the rain drop unobstructed, at angle a to the ground.

Consider the reflective properties of the the drop, the glass, and the human eye. Consider the eneregies acting upon the rain drop. Consider other relevant factors and/or a few irrelevant ones.

Q1. How does the shape and width of the rain drop change over time?

Q2. From what locations and angles would the rain drop (or any reflection of it) be visible to the human eye?

Q3. What determines the temperature of a particular point within the rain drop? What is the formula?

Q4. Does the raindrop reach the ground?

Q5. At what height does it cease to be a rain drop?

Q6. What is altered by the raindrop’s mathematical/existential journey?

[no question is mandatory - no answer is wrong]

SAMPLE ANSWERS

SAMPLE A.

1. It stays mostly round, and gets smaller.
2. Locations of open eyes looking within the optical range of the observer’s eye, symetrical to the angle of the sun to the ground, and the glass building wrt to 2k
3. The sun. f(k,H,h,…) = g(f(k),f(H),f(h), f(…)) = 42
4. Yes
5. 0 + d/2 – x; 0<x<d/2
6. Dirt.

SAMPLE B.

1. It vibrates and gets smaller.
2. Near windows.
3. The average temperature of neighbouring points. sum(temp(points))/sum(points);inclusive
4. No.
5. 6ft 8 inches.
6. An umbrella.

SAMPLE C.

1. It gets smaller over time t.
2. Anywhere where view of the rain drop is unobstructed.
3. Atomic theory. f(fhHkd) = shit happens!
4. No, the ground reaches it.
5. 0.
6. The ground and a little weed.

Get, set up a mantelpiece, and place upon that mantel-thingy only those entities you have created. Drawings, origami, assignments, animations, ect ect ect

Let the mantel-thingy separate you from the things you buy and the things you create. (Too much stuff, and too many distractions can hinder, encase, repress the inner you.) In other words, produce that which can be considered evidence of an inner you.

To start to create, simply grab random bits of unrelated things and ideas in your head and play with them, twist and transform them, constantly adding and removing constraints to them as you go. At some point you will have forgotten that you were trying to start to create. At any point you can examine what your mind has derived and pursue it further, or have another go, or do whatever else takes your interest.

So put only your stuff on your mantel piece, and add new stuff often. And cause no grief.

PS. The Internet can make a good mantelwall.
PSS. We are at our most improvised and adaptable when we are under constraints.
PSSS. Show off your mantel-thingys.

I like Gary Glitter because his voice was to me one of the most mesmering sounds to hit my ears at that point in my life. He caused me to look away from Elvis Presley! The voice, plus that that thumping Glitter sound and all the chanting. I was hooked.

In his voice there seemed to be this Elvis Presley vs James Brown battle going on. I have listened to a lot of male vocalists as one does when one is looking for his sound. His is right up there for me.

He did some really great covers and these re-interpretations are well worth a listen – ‘To Know You Is To Love You’ and Richie Valen’s ‘Donna’ to name but two.

To a male vocalist, he’s a worthy trainer. Listen: Gary Glitter – Donna

PS. To (would-be) musicians. Unless you listen beyond your cultural clique, to at least as far back as two generations, you wont have much to offer. Sorry. It’ll just be more of the same.

PS. To Gary Glitter haters: Stop projecting, go sponsor a child, and get a life. Troll!
